Laboratory of Computational Genomics Instituto Gulbenkian use computational approaches
(bioinformatics, systems biology) and genomic (NGS, microarrays) to study the evolution of
intracellular organization and in particular its compartmentalization. We have particular interest
in organelles formed by membranes, formed by the elements of the cytoskeleton, and a particular
class of compartmentalization that happens when a cell resides, temporarily or permanently within
another.
In my talk I will present some ongoing work in our group involving pathogenic bacteria that
replicate within eukaryotic cells as well as eukaryotes that replicate within other eukaryotes,
specifically the Perkinsus sp, a parasite of various marine bivalves. Discuss some ways of
application of these works, as well as future directions.
