2020-10-26 (IPMA)
It took place on 21 and 22 October 2020, the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) annual meeting, wich was attended by delegates from the 20 member countries of this intergovernmental organization - Portugal has been a ICES member since 1964 and is currently represented by delegates Manuela Azevedo (IPMA researcher, who has just finished her term as Vice-President at the Bureau) and Maria Ana Martins (Member of the IPMA Board of Directors).
In the meeting it was highlighted the remarkable progress made by the organization in recent years and were discussed the structure, means and mechanisms wich are necessary to comply with the ICES Strategic Plan, launched in 2019 and based on the Data and Information Center (DIG), Science plans (SCICOM) and Advisory (ACOM). It is essential to advance understanding about the Northeast Atlantic marine ecosystems functioning, consolidating advice and political decision-making on the sustainable management of resources and oceans, in knowledge and scientific evidence.
Portugal has an active participation in SCICOM and ACOM contributing to the leadership of working groups and the presentation of quality science that is produced by IPMA and national Universities. We recommend that you visit the links below.
