2021-11-09 (IPMA)
It will take place on 11 and 12 november 2021, in Évora University, the 2nd workshop edition "The Numerical Weather Prediction in Portugal, this year dedicated to surface-atmosphere interaction modeling processes. Currently, the adequate modeling of these processes - which describe changes in momentum, mass and energy in this interface - contributes significantly to numerical weather forecasting models good performance and the improvement of weather prediction conditions forecast quality.
IPMA follows the World Meteorological Organization established directives and standards, fits its numerical weatherprediction activities in the European scientific context - led by the European Center for Medium-range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF, https://www.ecmwf.int/) - and maintains operational atmosphere models available from the ALADIN numerical system, developed in partnership with international consortium ALADIN (http://www.umr-cnrm.fr/aladin/) of which Portugal is a part.
Invited speakers:
This workshop aims to spread numerical weather prediction activity in Portugal, establish new contacts and exchange ideas and know-how wich, incorporated in its operational activity, can bring added value to IPMA´s provision services. Simultaneously, also intends to bring new students for this field of expertise, promoting growing knowledge to this Operational Meteorology core area.
Concerning main results and conclusions, presented during this workshop, it will be published in a "Special Issue" in the "Atmosphere" newspaper of the Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute, promoted by the organizing committee.
This is an IPMA´s coordination event held in partnership with universities of Algarve, Aveiro, Évora, Lisboa, Trás-os Montes e Alto Douro.
