IPMA´s discloses the publication of the scientific article on the discovery of a warm glacial period that altered the cyclicity of the Earth's climate, published on May 10, 2023, in the journal "Nature Communications".
The article "Moist and warm conditions in Eurasia during the last glacial of the Middle Pleistocene Transition", was co-authored by IPMA researcher Teresa Rodrigues from the Marine Geology and Georesources Division, and included researchers from France, Spain and Germany.
Researchers have long wondered how around 700,000 years ago, our planet's climate cycles changed from 40,000-year climate cycles to today's 100,000-year cycles. A new study identifies a "warm" glacial period that would have allowed for the ice buildup needed for this important transition.
