IPMA informs that the proposal for a Co-management Plan for the Ria Formosa Natural Park, in the Algarve, is under public consultation until January 10, 2024.
The co-management model represents an important dimension of the proximity management of protected areas, with express intervention by municipalities and representatives of relevant entities to promote sustainable development and the valorization of classified natural spaces that make up their territory.
Ria Formosa is the largest wetland in southern Portugal and one of the country's areas richest in biodiversity. The Ria Formosa Natural Park (PNRF) is located in the eastern Algarve, based on the important lagoon area there. The PNRF covers an area of around 18,000 ha, including the submerged area covering the municipalities of Faro, Loulé, Olhão, Tavira and Vila Real de Santo António. The Ria Formosa Natural Reserve was established in 1978, having been reclassified as a Natural Park in 1987.
Contributions must be sent to the email geral@amal.pt, with the indication "Public Consultation Cogestion PNRF" or by post to the President's Support Office, Faro City Council, Largo da Sé, 8004-001 FARO.
IPMA is part of the Co-management committee through technicians from the Division of Aquaculture and Bioprospecting (DivAV).
