NOAA´s Director Visits IPMA

IPMA received on March 2nd, in our headquarters, the Director of the Ocean Prediction Center, A.J. Reiss, who presides over this institution dedicated to Maritime Meteorology and which is part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), an American IPMA´s counterpart.
The director visited IPMA outside of his presence in Lisbon to participate in the annual edition of the World Ocean Summit & Expo, organized by The Economist, between February 27th and March 1st.
It was possible in ths visit to learn about IPMA's services and activities related to the sea in the field of meteorology and geophysics, with a presentation on Maritime Meteorology, meteorological observation programs on ships, ocean modeling and a program for smart cables installation on the ocean floor, enabling the exchange of learning on topics of mutual interest. Also director A.J. Reiss gave a presentation on predicted developments in US Marine Meteorology and its economy impact.
The director was welcomed by IPMA´s Board of Directors members, Maria Ana Martins and Telmo Carvalho, the DivMV manager Nuno Lopes, meteorologist Anabela Carvalho, oceanographer Ana Machado and geophysicist Rachid Omira.
