IPMA monitors tropical cyclones

IPMA´s webpage now provides a specific monitoring area for tropical cyclones, wich as the offical data assembled by the world and regional centers for these meteorological phenomena.

Monitoring tropical cyclones is extremely important considering it´s possible impact in portuguese territory,, especially when they reach the hurricane category.

nformation now provided on IPMA website results from the "Severe Weather Information Center" (SWIC), a World Meteorological Organization (WMO) iniciative, which aims to gather on a single platform, official information related to weather warnings, monitoring of tropical cyclones and severe weather observations.

This information comes from warnings issued by the Regional Specialized Meteorological Centers (RMSCs), Tropical Cyclone Warning Centers (TCWCs) and official warnings issued by the National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) that are part of the Typhoon Committee (TC) for their respective countries or regions.
