IPMA Vessel Monitors Fishing

Under TECPESCAS project, funded by Mar2020, IPMA intends to provide scientific contribution to improve advice for marine resources management and conservation, by strengthening the development of new technologies associated with monitoring of fishing activities. In this scope, IPMA is developing, together with xSealence – Sea Technologies, an integrated system to provide real-time information on fishing operations.

The research vessel (RV) Mário Ruivo was chosen to test such system, comprising an electronic marker installed on the fishing winches with connection to the continuous monitoring equipment of the MONICAP system.

This system has recently been installed and will be tested during the upcoming fisheries research campaigns onboard RV Mário Ruivo.
