"ShareMed" Summer School

ShareMed Project2022-07-08 (IPMA)

The Summer School of the "ShareMed" project took place at IPMA/Algés, between 27 June and 1 July 2022, on the theme "Tools, data bases and knowledge to address and assess pollution and environmental threats in Mediterranean waters".

The initiative brought together speakers from Portugal, Italy, Spain, Malta and will address the following topics:

  • Environmental threats and observation systems developed in and for the Mediterranean area;
  • Opportunity to work with real-time data, develop evaluation procedures and case studies;
  • "Hands on" in sampling and laboratory work with a view to sharing knowledge.

The School had a learning/information sharing aspect, during the morning, and a practical component, during the afternoon, taking advantage of the modern laboratory infrastructures of IPMA.

The recipients were graduates, masters/doctoral/postdoctoral students, young researchers, data scientists, environmental managers and professionals in the field.

The initiative was funded for students enrolled within the application period (31 May).

The initiative brought together participants from 10 different nationalities, all working or studying in the Mediterranean area in Portugal.

During the discussion session led by Prof. Aldo Drago, Marine Research Consultant from Malta, and the organizing committee addressed several important messages to better protect marine ecosystems for future generations.
