Workshop on Fires Monitoring

The 3rd edition of the workshop ” Earth Observation Products for Wildfires Monitoring and Forecast”, will take place from the 18th to the 20th  of September at IPMA headquarters, in Lisbon.

The event is jointly organized by EUMETSAT, ECMWF, EC JRC, the Atmospheric Composition and Land-Surface Analysis EUMETSAT Satellite Application Facilities and Pyrolife, being hosted by the LSA-SAF-IPMA.

This new edition, based on previous, has as main objectives:

  • Discover and train (existing and new) Earth observation products;
  • Learn from the activities of different national services and user networks;
  • Discuss needs and priorities for better guidance and preparation of users.

Focusing on the introduction of new data and Copernicus satellite products and services; analysis of 2021/2022 season events and workflow from data collection to fire management; as well as the analysis of climate impact and emissions estimates; fitness for purpose and use/communication of data uncertainty.

The workshop format will be hybrid, onsite or remote participation. It will have about 120 participants online.
Remote access will be free, open to all interested and for all workshop sessions. The event will feature presentations by around 25 national and international experts in the field of fires, of which around 20 will be present at the IPMA headquarters.
