On the afternoon of January 18 at 12UTC a depression centered about 1200km west of Corunna, with a minimum pressure of about 996hPa, moved quickly estward at about 85km / h, focusing at 06UTC day 19, on the coast near Viana do Castelo. At this time, the depression declined exceptional pressure (28hPa in 19 hours), characteristic of a process called caving cyclogenesis explosive.
The lower atmospheric pressure was recorded at 06:50 UTC on 19 in Viana do Castelo, with a value of 968.2hPa. Then the depression infletiu south to the region of Porto, through the Center during the Saturday morning, coming to focus at 12UTC in the region of Castelo Branco, moving during the Saturday afternoon to Spain .
On the approach and passage through the continent, depression provoked strong wind, heavy rainfall throughout and strong sea swell on the west coast.
Among those following maximum burst: 140km / h at Cape Carvoeiro at 08:10 UTC, 139.7km / h in Cabo Raso, at 09:20 UTC. 128.5km / h in Fóia 09:30 UTC. Also noteworthy are the following values in some cities: 116.3km / h at 11:10 UTC in Porto (Rubras Stones), 102.6km / h, in Coimbra at 13:00 UTC, 104.4km / h in Lisbon (Gago Coutinho) at 09 : 30UTC.
There were also high levels of accumulated rainfall between 18 UTC on the 18th and the 19th 06UTC, stressing: Cabril in 68mm, 40mm and 44mm in Vila Real Penhas in Golden, where there was snowfall.
