The World Fisheries Congress 2024

In the past month of March, the 9th World Fisheries Congress (March 3-7, 2024) took place in the city of Seattle, USA. Organized every four years by the "World Council of Fisheries Societies", its objective is to exchange ideas and perspectives on research, emerging issues, scientific advancements, and governance related to fisheries science, industry, conservation, and management. This congress is the largest gathering of its kind, with this year seeing over 1200 oral and poster presentations from researchers representing more than 70 countries. IPMA was represented by researcher A. Miguel Santos, who presented the oral communication "An Automatic Ocean Observing Systems on Board a Cod Trawler Fishing Vessel" (Fig. 1) and was a co-author of another oral presentation, delivered by Cooper Van Vranken of the Ocean Data Network on behalf of the Fishing Vessel ocean Observing Network (FVON), titled "Democratizing Ocean Observation Via Fishing Vessel-Based Integrations to Improve Ocean Predictions." (Fig. 2) These communications were part of the session "Enhancing coastal and ocean observing networks for ecosystem and fisheries monitoring and prediction."
