Sentinel - Earth from space

The "Sentinel National Mirror" is a joint project of the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) and Department of Territory (DGT), in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA).
It aims to create a national infrastructure for storing different types of images, from the various Sentinel satellites, of the Portuguese territory, including the sea and the atmosphere.
It is a project funded under the 'European Economic Area Grants "(EEA Grants).
To demonstrate the applicability of the images collected by these satellites ESA highlights the Azores through the video below.
The images were taken in March by Sentinel-1A satellite and show the contrast between the blue sea and earth tones, while it is presented some of the history of Faial, Pico and São Jorge.
The satellite Sentinel-1A, which is in orbit since April 2014, has a radar sensor with 24 hours data collection capacity and that works under any weather conditions. More information about the family of Sentinel satellites http://www.esa.int/Our_Activities/Observing_the_Earth/Copernicus/Overview4.
It is expected that at the end of 2016 you can download the images of Sentinel satellites through the national node that is to be developed by IPMA and DGT.
