7.3Mw earthquake at Celebes sea (Philippines)

On the 10th January by 06:13 UTC, a 7.3 magnitude earthquake occurred at Celebes sea, about 188km SSE of Tabiauan (Philippines) about 613km depth. The region where the earthquake occurred is a tectonically complex region where several tectonic plates converge and where the Philippines plate is bordered by the Pacific, Eurasian and Sunda plates. In the region there is subduction of the Pacific plate under the Philippine plate and subduction of the Philippines plate under the Eurasian plate.
The shakemap produced by the USGS estimates that the earthquake was felt with maximum intensity III on the Modified Mercalli scale. According to the Pacific Tsunami Warning System (PTWC) there is no Tsunami threat because the quake was located deep within the Earth.
