Earthquake 8.1 recorded in Mexico

At 04:49 UTC (05:49 UTC +1, 08:49 GMT Mexican time zone) of 08/09/2017, a magnitude 8.1 earthquake occurred about 70 km SW from the coast of Chiapas in Mexico, at a depth of 70km.
This event was felt in the regions closest to the event with maximum intensity of IX. Until now, 5 fatalities have been reported and several buildings have been severely damaged.
In the region where this event was located, the tectonic plate of Cocos converges with the North American plate with a rate of approximately 76 mm/year.
The earthquake occurred as a result of the movement of a normal fault, originating a small tsunami with waves that reached a maximum height of 70 cm in some points of the Mexican coast of Chiapas. A tsunami alert has been launched by local and regional authorities, which remains in place for several other regions of the Pacific Ocean.
The earthquake was recorded throughout the national seismic network, and the first seismic waves were observed in the seismic station of Flores. An example of the registrations made in some stations of the national network is attached.
