2026-02-09 (IPMA)
IPMA carried out, between 26 and 30 January, specialized training in the operation of the ROV Defender, aimed at strengthening the technical and operational skills of its team in the use of remotely operated vehicles.
The training included both theoretical and practical components, including tests in a controlled environment and sea trials, enabling an applied approach aligned with the operational challenges associated with monitoring and research of the marine environment.
With this training, IPMA strengthens its response capacity in fulfilling its mission, consolidating essential competencies for the implementation of national and European directives, namely within the framework of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD), the monitoring of offshore marine protected areas, and the application of the Nature Restoration Law.
This training represents a relevant step in strengthening IPMA’s technical autonomy, contributing to more effective action in the areas of ocean observation, monitoring, and sustainable management.
IPMA thanks the Portuguese Navy for providing the facilities at the Lisbon Naval Base, as well as all the logistical support provided by the diving team, which were fundamental to the success of the training activity.
