IPMA has recently published the Climatological Normals for the period 1991-2020 on its website.
Climatological Normals are a set of data products that provide information on typical weather conditions for various locations. Climate normals are produced by countries all over the world in order to compare today's weather with tomorrow's forecast, and as a predictor of conditions in the near future.
Climate normals are also used as a reference to provide context for recent or current weather and climate conditions. They also provide a basis for many anomaly-based climate datasets.
To calculate these normals, the data series for the climatic elements air temperature and precipitation were subjected to various validation and homogenization processes. It should be noted that the missing values in the data series were replaced with data from the "Weather Research and Forecasting Model" (WRF), and hybrid series (in situ observation + WRF model) of air temperature (maximum and minimum) and precipitation data were reconstructed.
In addition to this update, some normals from the previous period, 1981-2010, were also updated.
