May hot and dry in Portugal

The month of May 2025 was classified as hot and dry in mainland Portugal. Find out the conclusions of the preliminary analysis of this month's Climatological Bulletin.
 
In terms of average air temperature, this was the 12th warmest May since 2000, with + 0.45 °C above the normal value (1991-2020).

Total rainfall was below normal, corresponding to 68 % of the average value for the 1991-2020 period.

There were 18 new extremes (and 3 more equalled) of the highest maximum air temperature. There were also 2 new extremes of the highest minimum air temperature.

No region of mainland Portugal is in a meteorological drought.
