IPMA participates in Researchers Night

2022-09-29 (IPMA)

On the 30th of September, the new edition of the European Researchers' Night (NEI) takes place, with several initiatives across the country, and where IPMA is happy to participate again.

This initiative is held annually at European level and has as its theme in 2022 “Science for all – Inclusion and Sustainability”.

IPMA will participate in various activities related to the Sea and Marine Resources area, such as puzzles, quizzes, various traditional games, observations with a magnifying glass and microscopes.

Topics to be addressed include:

  • Show the potential for designing new food products from undervalued marine resources;
  • Learn to identify bivalve molluscs and know how to monitor their health;
  • Observe the plankton and the toxins they produce; build several layers of the ocean using liquids of different densities;
  • Observe fossils of organisms used to reconstruct the climate of the past and look for the secrets hidden in the sediments of the oceans;
  • The sustainability of fishing, which are the main fish caught in Portugal; Observing the age of fish (otoliths)

Our planned activities are described in detail in the document below, but we summarize:

  • "Tasting Functional Foods Prepared from Marine Resources with Health Benefits";
  • "From Sea to Plate" - puzzles, quizzes and memory games;
  • "Going with the Current" - microscope observations, memory games and other activities;
  • "Did you know that the oceans keep the history of the Earth's climate?" - Fossil observation, adapted glory game;
  • "What does the IPMA Fisheries Resource Modeling and Management (divrp) division do?"

Participation is free to the public. For more information please know the NEI 2022 program.
